Orientation Session for Batch of 2026

IIT Mandi welcomes all students of 2026 batch at the institute campus, situated in the lap of Himalaya. To start your first day at campus please report at Institute Auditorium, North campus.

Reporting : 1st of August 2026 (Saturday)

Following is the schedule of your 1st two days at IIT Mandi:
Hostel Allotment:
Students are requested to come to the Institute Auditorium (foyer area) to get the details of their allotted hostels. The allotment list will be displayed outside the Auditorium Area. Please check your name in the list, note down the Hostel name and Room No. Share this detail with the volunteer involved in hostel allotment at the auditorium (foyer area). A temporary card will be given by the volunteers at the counter with the allotted hostel/mess names. It is mandatory to collect the card for the hostel caretaker for entry to the hostel and mess. Issuing of Students ID cards: The Institute ID Card will be issued on the completion of the admission process of the student. An email will be sent to all students for the issuance of the ID Card. The student is required to come to Dean (S) Office, A9, 1st floor to get the ID Card. Saturday, 01/08/2026

Orientation: A short introductory session cum orientation has been arranged from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Institute Auditorium, North campus and the Hon’ble Director, IIT Mandi will address the entire batch. Sunday, 02/08/2026

Instructions for the Students/Parents

Students/Parents are required to:
✔ At the welcome function, students should preferably get dressed in sober/formal/semi-formal wear only.
✔ During the session, please make sure to be seated in the auditorium at your designated seat only, before 9:55 AM.
✔ Parents are required to book their stay in the institute guest house as per availability or near IIT Mandi and Mandi town at their own cost.
✔ Please cooperate with security/staff/volunteers during the entire duration of your stay at campus.
✔ Please take food at the assigned mess only and do not litter in the campus and use garbage bins. Parents will be charged at the outsiders’ rate for taking food in the mess.
✔ Please avoid using plastic bottles for drinking water. There are water arrangements in every hostel/block.
✔ Parents/students can use the interactive map of North Campus, IIT Mandi for easy movement in the campus.

Common Queries

Answers to expected queries from parents:
Q: By what time we should be available at IIT Mandi campus on 1st August or earlier?
A: The hostel allotment would be from 1st August onwards. Hence, it is up to parents/students about their arrival at Mandi/IIT Mandi on or before 1st August. Before 1st August 2026, no accommodation is available at IIT Mandi campus for parents/students. However, the accommodation request may be considered subject to availability.
Q: Will the student get Hostel allotted on the same day i.e. on 1st August? Do we have the option to choose a room or is it first-come-first-serve?
A: Allotment of hostels/rooms would take place on the same day of arrival of students to IIT Mandi campus i.e. on 1st August 2026.
Q: In the institute guest house, is there accommodation available for parents also and for how many days?
A: IIT Mandi has its own guest house with limited capacity. However, parents can book their stay in advance by communicating directly to the guest house at managergh@iitmandi.ac.in.
Q: From where can we buy a mattress, blanket and other necessary items?
A: The arrangements for buying mattresses and blankets have been made inside the campus and students can buy from any vendor. Students can buy other basic necessary items from vendors at the institute campus or bring them from home. For the convenience of students, the guide to these items is appended below. Q: Is it mandatory for parents to be present with the student during admission process?
A: It is not mandatory. However, parents are welcome at the IIT Mandi campus to witness the admission process and welcome function. In case of incomplete documents, a parent can help their ward complete them on the spot.
Q: For the course and campus related queries, please provide me with the senior students’ access.
A: Students Gymkhana is a unit that works under the Dean Students Office. You can connect with Gymkhana Secretaries listed above for guidance.
Q: Due to monsoon season, what type of precautions should be taken care of?
A: In the monsoon season, due to hilly areas and frequent travel by tourists, Himachal roads may be overcrowded, and traffic may be diverted or blocked temporarily. Hence, plan your travel with a margin of 2-3 hours.
